This one-hour class, taught by John Friend, founder of Anusara yoga, is suited for all levels of experience and focuses on connecting with the essence of Joy that is the very nature of our Being. In this well-rounded sequence of standing poses, hip openers, backbends, seated twists and forward folds, contrary complementary energies like effort/surrender and contraction/expansion are brought into harmonious relationship through refined awareness and elegant alignment principles.
John starts by reminding us that every living Being yearns to be happy and experience as much Freedom in life as possible. This is because at the very essence of our Being dwells a pulsating Consciousness whose true nature is pure Delight-the highest Delight one can imagine. That essence of Delight within our deepest self is often covered up by imbalanced frequencies of mind, body, and heart, which cause us to feel disconnected from our fundamental state of Freedom and happiness. Throughout this practice, John teaches how yoga can be a powerful tool for finding a lasting connection to the essence of Bliss at the heart of our Being.
